Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate
Welcome to the website of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate of the American Province. The Congregation was founded on October 7, 1878 (Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary) in Poland by Blessed Honorat Kozminski, a Polish Franciscan Capuchin. The American Province has undertaken various apostolic works serving God and neighbor in a spirit of Franciscan joy since 1935.
The above left icon depicts our spirituality and apostolic life. The icon of the hands represent our apostolic service of people. The sisters try to imitate Christ and his Mother, especially in the mystery of their simple, hidden life in Nazareth. St. Francis of Assisi is our model for imitating the human life of Jesus. Just as St. Francis did, Sisters Servants want to love the Cross, to do penance, and to joyfully discover God in all of his creation.
We imitate JESUS, our LORD and Bridegroom, in the mystery of his HIDDEN LIFE, which he practiced for 30 years in Nazareth and which he continues to practice by his hidden presence in the Church today - hidden in the sacraments, especially in the Eucharist, and in each of our neighbors...
The sisters also venerate the Immaculate Patroness of the Congregation by responding to her various appeals. “I am the handmaid of the Lord” - through these words, together with MARY, we - Sisters Servants, also learn to live and to serve. Due to the hidden nature of our life, you may unknowingly meet us at a school, at a university, while traveling, in a hospital, among the abandoned, the sad, the hungry... here in this country and abroad. Our motto is "Love Mary and serve her faithfully."
The Gospel is the source from which the Sisters draw their inspiration, strength and light in order to fulfill their vocation and mission in the world. They strive to exert influence on the Christian formation of human society from within - after the model of evangelical leaven. The Sisters Servants strive to follow Christ along the way of the Evangelical Councils of chastity, poverty, and obedience, with a particular emphasis on humility, simplicity, and concealment. The Sisters wear no distinctive garb, that is, non-habited.
Please enjoy your visit to our website. We pray that each of you will receive God's enduring Love and Peace. May Jesus and Mary Bless you!
